A 21-year-old man has pleaded guilty to repeatedly jabbing his elder brother in the face with a pair of scissors, in a bloody confrontation that was caught on video.

Wong Fu-kit copped to one count of wounding with intent at District Court yesterday afternoon, a year after he was arrested for attacking 32-year-old Wong Ying-keung at the Long Ping Estate in Yuen Long in front of horrified passersby.

Local media reported that the fight broke out because of a dispute over the defendant’s girlfriend, who the elder Wong told the defendant to dump because, wait for it … the couple’s Chinese zodiac signs were incompatible.

In the days prior to the attack, the elder Wong drunkenly attacked the girlfriend by pulling her hair and stealing her phone, and after the younger Wong heard what happened, he arranged for the two to meet outside the housing estate he lived in, and wildly jabbed his brother in the face with the shears about five times.

Apple Daily reports that Wong’s mom, his girlfriend, and her mom were in the courtroom yesterday to support him.

In a mitigating statement to the court, Wong’s attorney said the brothers had a strained relationship for years, and that Wong’s alleged oppression at the hands of his elder brother was what caused him to lose control that day.

Families, huh?

The defendant was remanded in custody, and sentencing is expected to take place on February 20.
