Man impales thigh on metal fence while pruning tree in Tseung Kwan O

A 56-year-old man has been hospitalised after he impaled his thigh on a metal fence while pruning a tree in Tseung Kwan O today.

At around 10:20am, a man surnamed Yip had climbed two metres up a ladder to trim a 10-metre-high pine tree outside his home in Tin Ha Wan Village, Oriental Daily reports.

He was cutting the tree’s overgrown branches with a handheld saw when he lost his footing and fell, impaling his right thigh on an iron post in his fence.

A neighbour of Yip’s heard him cry for help and immediately called the police. According to Apple Daily, Yip was still conscious when emergency services arrived, but had lost a lot of blood.

Firefighters sawed the post off underneath Yip and sent him to hospital for treatment with the bar still in his leg to prevent further damage. He is reported to now be in stable condition.
