A 33-year-old Hong Kong man received a brutal lesson in respecting his elders yesterday when he was savagely beaten by passers-by for having attacked an older man whose pushcart bumped his doggie stroller.

Apple Daily, citing eyewitnesses, reported that the incident occurred in Mong Kok at about 6:30pm as the younger man, surnamed Mok and wearing a black hoodie emblazoned with the word “WEAPONS,” was taking a stroll through the very crowded Dundas Street with his dog — which, naturally, was in a stroller.

As Mok and his dog approached the Ho King Shopping Centre at the intersection of Dundas and Fa Yuen streets, a man in a green sweater pushing a cart loaded with cardboard boxes accidentally bumped Mok’s doggie stroller. This, apparently, was too much to bear.

Mok completely loses it, swinging wildly and swearing at the man in the green sweater, managing to land a few blows in the process.

At one point in the video, Mok can be heard saying that his dog could have been killed, and demands an apology from the man he’s currently attacking, whom he dares to call the police.

Another video, apparently shot just seconds later, shows a group of four men, some wearing face masks, emerge from the crowd of bystanders. One, dressed in a grey shirt, grapples briefly with Mok, who appears to hit him in the face. That’s when things get decidedly nasty for Mok.

Almost immediately, another man punches Mok in the side of the head. Hard. The others, including the man in grey, quickly join in, raining blows on an increasingly unresponsive Mok, whose body is pinned against a railing by the force of the assault.

The attack ends in a matter of seconds, and the four men quickly depart the scene, leaving Mok doubled over on all fours. As he leaves, the man in the grey shirt can be heard yelling back, “You motherfucker, how dare you hit an older man!”

At that point, the man in the green sweater, whose cart set off the entire chain of events, hurriedly gathers his spilled cardboard boxes and leaves the scene. The dog, it should be noted, appeared to escape the altercation unscathed, if probably a bit confused.

Paramedics and police soon arrived at the scene, where they found Mok unconscious on the sidewalk, according to Apple Daily. He was taken to the hospital and is now reportedly conscious and in stable condition.

Police made no arrests, but told the newspaper that they are looking for four men aged 25 to 30.

While some social media users chimed in to note that it was wrong of the four men to attack Mok, a tsunami of comments slammed Mok for picking on the older man on the first place, with some commenters going as far as to call the four mystery men  heroes.

“That man was a thug and he deserved what he got,” said one netizen, while another described the beating as “instant karma.”

Many commenters remarked that Mok was a typical “MK Boy,” or “Mong Kok Boy,” invoking a derogatory Cantonese slang term used to describe a young person who is vulgar, chases trends, and wears cheap knock-off designer clothes and gear.
