Next stop…

Putting the amuse in amusement park, this group of about 50 mainland tourists, who were spotted earlier this week piling into a model tram in Ocean Park and waiting for the trolly to get going.

Bless them, it didn’t.

The tram is fake, part of the park’s “Old Hong Kong” attraction — a display decked out to resemble the city in the 1950s and 1970s — something the group eventually realised after about 20 minutes of waiting.

Video of the group’s attempted journey on Monday afternoon was sent to Apple Daily by an eyewitness surnamed Wong.

The context, Wong says, is that the fake tram is positioned next to the terminus for the park’s cable car, which takes visitors to rides and attractions at the theme park.

And the line for the cable car that day — a particularly busy day — was long, with waiting times about 50 minutes, said Wong, among those queueing up.

He said about 2pm, a group of mainland tourists also lining up spotted the fake tram and, perhaps thinking they’d happened upon another way to their destination, hopped aboard.

Although one may suggest the group were just going for a photo of the vintage trolly, their patient waiting seems to suggest otherwise, with some spotted standing inside the aisle, while others can be seen waiting outside the tram entrance, presumably for the next empty carriage to roll along.

Apple Daily said a member of staff did try to explain that the tram wasn’t real but the group reportedly didn’t understand.

Ah well, all in good fun.
