Sick of the doom and gloom? Well then, here’s a cheerful story of a dog reunited with its owners and of social media justice done right.

On November 9th, a 6-year-old King Charles Spaniel called Pepita was taken by a man with a white cap and blue jacket in Sai Wan, Kennedy Town. To make matters more urgent, Pepita also has a heart condition that requires medicine every day.

Audrey Kuziner put up posters on social media and offered a HK$20,000 (US$1280) reward for anyone who could retrieve her or help reunite her with her owners.

Enter the social media detectives, particularly one eagle-eyed commenter who posted to a Facebook group a photo of a dog resembling Pepita on a leash with a man in white cap and red and white T-shirt walking around Mong Kok.

Other netizens joined the hunt to help hunt down the man, including a journalist from local news site hk01 who followed and filmed the man entering Mong Kok MTR with Pepita.

As can be seen the footage , after entering the station, the man put Pepita into a bag and took the train to the Kowloon Tong, where he switched to another train headed towards Sheung Shui.

However, before the train could leave the platform, police officers took the man off the train

According to Apple Daily, the man was apprehended two hours after the photo was posted.

After being reunited with Pepita, Audrey said: “She’s very good, just very smelly.

“It’s very good team work, and thank you so much to all the community of Hong Kong, without you or the journalists we’ll not be there today. Thank you so, so much.”
