An off-duty police officer was repeatedly stabbed and seriously injured last night during an apparent altercation with his mother’s neighbor, according to reports.

The officer, surnamed Ng, was stabbed at least eight times, suffering wounds to his stomach, neck and chest, according to hk01.com.

Ng had been visiting his mother in Kwai Chung, where neighbors reportedly heard him scream during a scuffle in a corridor in the On Yam Estate.

According to Apple Daily, investigators identified the suspect as Yeung, 52, a neighbor of Ng’s mother, who was reportedly armed with an eight-centimeter-long butterfly knife and was arrested by police.

Ng — who works at  as a member of the traffic accident special investigation team at Traffic Kowloon West Operations — was rushed to Princess Margaret Hospital for emergency surgery.

According to the reports, there was no bad blood between the two.

Hk01.com reported, however, that the suspect may have suffered a mental illness and was also taken to hospital for evaluation.
