On Wednesday, Hong Kong police raided an unlicensed massage parlour on Shanghai Street, Ya Ma Tei, arresting five people, reports Ming Pao.
The parlour reportedly turns into an illegal mahjong den at 6pm every night, entertaining regular customers, who presumably like a little shoulder rub when placing big bets..
Police were tipped off about the illegal gambling den about a month ago, and staked out the lot from 6pm to 8pm on Wednesday night.
Two men and three women were arrested, three of whom are thought to have been in charge of the operation. The police confiscated close to HKD10,000 in cash, two electric mahjong tables and four sets of mahjong.
An officer said they believe the massage shop had been functioning as a part-time mahjong parlour for about a month, taking in almost HKD6,000 in that time.
He also noted that this was not the only massage-turned-mahjong joint in the area, and that related investigations will continue.
*(Ha, we used “cum” in a headline. No-one can accuse us of not toeing the Hong Kong government line now.)
