A Hong Kong motorist was injured in a knife attack late Monday night — one that came after a car chase that ended with his vehicle overturned and him trapped inside as his knife-wielding assailants caught up to him.

The victim, a 35-year-old man surnamed Chow, was assaulted by three men with blades through the smashed windows of his black Toyota after the car mounted an embankment and flipped over in Sheung Shui at around 11:45pm, according to HK01. The chase began around the residential area of Tsui Lai Gardens.

Now TV reports that Chow had been driving towards Fanling on Jockey Club Road with the culprits in pursuit in a white vehicle. The crash and subsequent attack took place near the North District Sports Centre.

Witnesses told HK01 that the victim was lucky to escape more serious injuries as the attackers could not easily reach him due to the way his car had flipped.

Chow, who suffered minor injuries to his right thigh, was given first aid at the scene but refused to be taken to the hospital.

Police initially locked down the area around Jockey Club Road and Tin Ping Road, and are currently investigating further and carrying out a manhunt for the attackers.
