Looking for plans this weekend? Heard about the “glamping” trend—for the uninitiated, that’s “glamorous” and “camping” combined—and want to get on board?

Pros: It’s a stone’s throw away from the Prince Edward MTR station, and comes with wifi, security and a washing machine.

Cons: It’s someone’s living room.

Last Friday, a Facebook user added a post to FindYourRoomInHongKong, a group where people can advertise rooms for rent.

The user shared a picture of a silver tent, surrounded by glowing fairy lights, in one corner of a living room. Inside the tent is a red armchair, and, well, not much else.

“Glamping in the living room for 3,000HKD monthly (US$390),” the user wrote.

“No agent fee,” she touted, adding that there are amenities including a “big kitchen” and a “refrige.”

The post attracted ridicule and confusion, with some wondering if the advert is meant to be a joke.

Others tagged their friends sarcastically and suggested they go “glamping” in the living room together.

One user even commended the post. “Really appreciate the attempt to entertain everyone here,” she wrote.

The post was shared by a popular Hong Kong Instagram account, @hkmehmeh, with the caption “Hong Kong people are losing their f**king minds.” The post was liked over 2,000 times.

Coconuts reached out to the original poster, Kaori Chen, to enquire if her glamping site has been rented out.

Chen replied that it is “still available” but “only for short-term.” She added that the room will be available until 24 January 2021.

That settles it. We’ll be there.
