An elderly woman was rushed to the hospital on Saturday morning after she was apparently caught under the wheels of a truck in Yuen Long.
Police were called to the scene at 11:55am on Kau Yuk Road after receiving a report that the woman – a 68-year-old surnamed Fung – had been run over by a commercial truck while attempting to cross the road, HK01 reports.
Video posted online shows the woman standing just in front of the truck, which is at a standstill on Kau Yuk Road. As traffic lets up, however, and the heavy truck slowly begins to pull away, she’s pushed over by the bumper and appears to go under the wheels of the vehicle, though a passing taxi obscures part of the incident. (Some viewers may find the video disturbing.)
A male pedestrian in a white shirt can then be seen waving at the truck driver and telling him to stop the vehicle.
Police arrested the driver — a 36-year-old surnamed Tung – on suspicion of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm.
Fung was taken to Tuen Mun Hospital in an unconscious state for emergency treatment.
A police spokesperson confirmed to Coconuts HK that the driver was released on bail and has to report back to the police station in mid-June.
Police added that they had no further updates on Fung’s condition.
