Domestic helper found hanged in her bedroom, body discovered by employer

A foreign domestic helper was found hanging from a bunk bed by her elderly employer yesterday, local media reports.

The incident occurred just before 9am at Bayshore Apartments in Aberdeen. Oriental Daily reports that the employer, an 86-year-old woman surnamed Chan, found her Thai helper’s bedroom door shut at around 8am yesterday morning and found it odd, as she usually left early on Sundays to spend time with her friends.

Thinking that the woman had simply overslept, Chan knocked on the door but became worried when she heard no response. She opened the door at 8:44am to find the 48-year-old hanging from a noose made out of a bedsheet, according to Apple Daily.

Chan called emergency services, who certified the woman dead on the scene. No suicide note was found at the apartment and police said they do not believe there to be any suspicious circumstances.

The deceased had reportedly worked in Hong Kong for many years. Police are trying to contact her next of kin.
