We often bring you stories of people in perilous positions around the city but, sometimes, nature gets itself into a bind as well.

And, on that front, here’s short piece — and video — about a bovine blunder. Namely, a female cow and her calf had to be rescued after getting stuck in a water canal in Tsuen Wan yesterday.

According to Apple Daily, the alarm was first sounded at about 9:30am yesterday morning when a woman called the police saying she spotted two cows trapped in the water canal near the Route Twisk highway.

When emergency services arrived, the cows were nowhere to be found, but they returned to the scene three hours later after the same woman called again to report that the pair had been spotted.

The female cow was believed to have weighed about 500 pounds, and the calf was about 200 pounds.

HK01 reported that personnel from the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD), and the fire services were at the scene to try armed with two wooden boards.

Instead of using ropes to lift the two cows out of the canal, they used the two wooden boards to block both sides of the canal, and the pair eventually climbed out of the canal and into the woods.
