China files: Kid’s house catches fire, he responds with ‘I’ll throw my schoolbag in!’

A shop fire in the city of Mianyang in China’s Sichuan province made the news this week for reasons you would least expect: the rather misplaced exuberance of a young boy, whose parents own the business.

According to Sina News, 15 firefighters were dispatched to the scene on Jan. 12 after receiving a report at about 8:30pm that evening.

There was no loss of life, the fire covered about 14 square meters, and was believed to have been caused by a faulty wire.

But even tragedies have stars and in this case it was the son of the shop owners, who posted a video of their kid thinking of the positives during the ordeal.

“Our home is on fire! That’s great! Ill throw my schoolbag in!” he says, as the family’s livelihood goes up in flames.

The video appeared online earlier this week and netizens flocked to add zingers to the objectively horrible situation for the family.

“The parents are less angry about the fire and more angry about the boy not doing his homework,” commented one person, likely from the safety and comfort of their home.

“Firefighters, quick! Save the schoolbag first!” added another.

Another commentator imagined how hilarious it would be if the boy thought his schoolwork was destroyed only to find out that it wasn’t.

“Parents: Son, all the valuables in our home are gone, but your homework, here it is”.

Another also lightheartedly poked fun at notion of using a devastating house fire as an excuse for not completing homework.

“You think a house fire means you don’t have to hand in homework? Kids these days,” they commented.
