With a widening gap between the rich and the poor in Hong Kong, the living conditions of grassroots families are getting worse.
A recent survey interviewed 145 grassroots families and found that over 70 per cent of them live in flats as small as 51 cuft and over 80 per cent do not have a space for a desk for their children to study on. 60 per cent of the parents said their children would wake up in the middle of the night because they’re too hot or cold.
A concern group said the poor living environments will harm the self-esteem of the children. They are urging the government to provide subsidies to these families.
