Chef who threw pet chihuahua and broke its leg given suspended 10-day jail term

A 43-year-old chef who broke his pet chihuahua’s leg after repeatedly throwing it on the ground was given a suspended jail term today.

Lo Chin-lok was found guilty on three counts of animal cruelty and given a 10-day jail sentence, suspended for one year, SCMP reports.

The defendant denied the charges, and reportedly begged Magistrate Vennie Chiu to let him keep the dog, saying he wanted to “make up” for his actions.

Chiu denied Lo’s appeal based on his “relatively high” chance of recidivism, citing his court-ordered psychological report.

In May 2015, Lo was witnessed throwing his limping dog on the ground twice by a passerby, and later hurling the animal “six or seven feet” onto the ground “like a frisbee”, breaking one of its front legs. The dog is now being cared for by the SPCA.
