Police are on the trail of two floundering thieves whose faces were clearly caught on CCTV as they tried to break into an apartment in Mong Kok over the weekend.

The men, aged between 30 and 40, gained entry to an old tenement building in Tung Choi street about 3pm on Saturday, according to on.cc.

Once inside, the pair loitered around a corridor, seemingly checking to see whether they were being watched.

They were.

Video from a security camera positioned above the apartment they were staking out shows the two shady characters skulking about, their faces in full view.

Finally realizing they were being filmed, one man, after staring directly into the lens, uses a broom to knock the camera slightly, which actually provides a better angle to watch his partner attempt to break open the lock with a metal bar.

Total masterminds.

Fortunately, the pair were about as good at forcing locks as they were at avoiding being caught on camera and after 10 minutes left without gaining entry to the flat.

Resident Cynthia Chan, who lives in the flat targeted by the pair and uploaded the CCTV footage to Facebook, told on.cc that she and her family were sleeping at the time of the attempted burglary.

She said added she was worried the pair might return, noting the building’s lack of a security guard and CCTV cameras at its entrance. Mong Kok District Investigation Team 3 is hunting the men.
