A 66-year-old bus driver who was arrested last week for reportedly masturbating by the doors of his bus was fined HK$1,000 (US$127), after telling the court yesterday that he was actually peeing.
Chiu Kwok-wai was arrested last week on suspicion of indecent exposure after a photo of him, can of coffee in one hand and his other hand down his trousers, appeared online.
The incident happened at about 6:15am that day on Po Kong Village Road in Tsz Wan Shan.
Representing himself at Kowloon City Magistrates’ Court yesterday, Chiu said that he had drunk a lot of water and had two cans of coffee that morning, Apple Daily reports.
He told the court he had been driving for a while and couldn’t hold it in anymore.
He said he couldn’t find any public toilets nearby, so he took a chance, checked if there was anyone nearby, and relieved himself.
“If someone took a photo of me of course I would have stopped, otherwise I would have become famous, right?” Chiu said.
He also told the court that he does mainly temporary work and only earns just over HK$1,000 a month. He asked the magistrate for forgiveness and understanding.
Chiu told the court he knew what he did was wrong and promised “there will never ever be a second time.”
The newspaper reported that the magistrate accepted Chiu’s apology after looking at the photo one more time, but added that even if there was no one watching, that did not make what he did alright.
