50% of Hong Kong employers unprepared for Generation Z

According to a Workmonitor survey conducted by Randstad Hong Kong, only 50 percent of local employees believe their bosses are capable of meeting the demands of Generation Z (read: keeping up with the times).

If you’re too old to know what Gen Z is, they’re currently aged 14 – 19 and are soon to take your job.

The survey, which quizzed more than 400 working Hongkongers, revealed concerns that unaccommodating bosses have no idea how to handle the up-and-coming workforce, who just happen be the ones dominating the city’s social, political and economic scene right now.  Hat tip, Josh Wong.

The report also showed that slightly less than half (47 percent) believe they could benefit from the skills of Generation Z employees, compared to 86 percent in India, 75 percent in China, 74 percent in Malaysia and 68 percent in Singapore.

Hong Kong’s a nation of know-it-alls. Who knew? All of us, obviously.

According to Human Resources, Peter Yu, director of Randstad Hong Kong, suggests employers should provide rapid advancement opportunities, flexible working hours and better work-life balance for younger employees.

“To successfully integrate Generation Z into the workplace, employers need to understand their motivation, strengths and weaknesses, while balancing the needs of each generation which all have diverse perspectives, skill sets and work styles.”

Get with it, local bosses. Young people are demanding.
