A second participant in the annual harbour swim has died, according to local media.
Following the death of a 46-year-old man competing in the New World Harbour Swim on Sunday, a second swimmer, who was pulled out of the water unconscious, has tragically died.
The 59-year-old woman. surnamed Cheung, remained at the Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital under intensive care for two days before passing away at 11:06pm last night, Headline Daily reports.
Both she and the 46-year-old, surnamed Ho, were competing in the leisure category for slower swimmers.
The deaths are the first casualties to take place since the race resumed in 2011, following a 33-year-hiatus.
The race is currently under review by FINA, the world aquatics governing body.
