2 street sleepers die at Sham Shui Po park within 18 hours

Two street sleepers have tragically died within 18 hours of each other at the same park in Sham Shui Po.

At around midnight today, a 58-year-old homeless man surnamed Leung found his friend, surnamed Ho, unconscious on a bench in Tung Chau Street Park and called for help.

An ambulance arrived and certified that Ho was dead on the scene, Ming Pao reports. Ho had reportedly camped at the park for the last six months.

At 6:39am yesterday, a 47-year-old street sleeper surnamed Sit was found dead near a refreshment kiosk at Tung Chau Street Park.

According to HK01, Sit had been released from prison a few days before his death and may have struggled to adapt to the weather, with just a towel to keep him warm at night.

Following initial investigations, police said they do not suspect suspicious circumstances in either case. Ho and Sit’s causes of death have yet to be determined, pending their autopsies.
