12 hospitalised due to Typhoon Nida, 500 flights to be rescheduled tomorrow

Typhoon Nida has come and gone, causing the government to hoist a No. 8 Signal from 8:40pm last night to 12:40pm today. There were reports of hospitalisations, flooding, fallen trees and around 500 cancelled flights due to the tropical cyclone.

The Airport Authority reports that about 500 flights to and from the city are expected to be rescheduled sometime between 6am and midnight tomorrow.

The government received two reports of flooding, one report of landslide, and at least 403 reports of fallen trees.

A total of 12 people, comprised of 11 men and one woman aged between 34 and 91, were hospitalised due to the typhoon.

As of 5:05pm, two men are still receiving treatment while the rest have been discharged.

When the Typhoon Signal No. 8 was lowered, a total of 262 people had sought refuge in temporary shelters set up by the government.

Though Nida is now 260 kilometres away according to the Hong Kong Observatory, there will still be strong winds affecting high grounds and offshore areas.

It also advises the general public to stay way from shorelines due to ongoing swells.

Following the lowering of the Typhoon No. 3 Signal, which was in force from 12:40 pm until 5:10pm, there have been no other weather warnings hoisted.
