Catch a dragon boat race this long weekend on Lamma Island

Stuck on ideas for what to do this long weekend? Why not catch a dragon boat race?

Head over to Tai Wan To Beach between 9am and 6pm this Sunday and catch the 10th annual Lamma 500 International Dragon Boat Festival, one of the most challenging races in the Dragon Boat calendar.

Tai Wan To beach is home of the Lamma Dragons and the Lamma Outrigger Canoe Club, and this year you can cheer on the international boats rowing 500 metres in deepwater whilst you sit safely on the beach with your cold drink and (hopefully enormous) stockpile of snacks.

This year the Make-a-Wish Foundation is the official charity for the race and are arranging activities to help raise funds for their work.

Afterwards, saunter into Yung Shue Wan for an uber-fresh seafood meal or some (more) cold beers. Alternatively, there will be a beach party after 6pm, so you’re almost certainly guaranteed a great amount of food and a greater amount of drink with no excuses to leave (holla, public holiday!)… except for the fact that the last ferry leaves Lamma at 11:30pm.

What: The KPMG Lamma 500 International Dragon Boat Festival
When: 9am-6pm, Sunday May 1, 2016
Where: Tai Wan To Beach, Lamma Island
Price: Free
