Okra, Rhoda, Zuma join second Taste of Hong Kong festival

After making its wildly successful Hong Kong debut earlier this year, Taste (the premium restaurant festival, not the middling supermarket) looks like it’s already got another corker in the works for the coming March.

A total of 13 of Hong Kong’s most exclusive eateries will be setting up camp on the Central Harbourfront for four days to offer a limited menu of delectable dishes to the city’s fervent foodies… and it looks like they’ll need the harbourfront’s capacity, ’cause 15,000 people rocked up last year.

Chef Nate Green from Rhoda will be serving up a tartare of wild Hereford ox heart, egg yolk puree, amongst other things

If you’ve been too busy (or broke) to visit this year’s most talked-about restaurants, now’s your chance to check out new kids on the block Rhoda, Okra, Mercato, and Kaum at Potato Head. Another newcomer to the Taste bill (but a longtime favourite of ours) is contemporary Japanese restaurant Zuma.

Chefs Paul Lau and Pino Lavarra from Tin Lung Heen and Tosca, respectively, posing with some of the dishes they’ll be presenting at Taste of Hong Kong

Restaurants making repeat appearances include luxury establishments like Amber, Arcane, and Tin Lung Heen, as well as hipper-than-thou izakaya Yardbird and Mexican-Japanese taco joint Chino.

We’re almost squinting, they’ve got so many damn Michelin stars between them.

Festivalgoers will have the chance to sample a small selection of signature dishes, as well as an “icon” dish specially created for the event, from each participating restaurant.

Some of the products that will be on sale at the Gourmet Market

In between eating, attendees can check out other amenities catered towards gourmands, such as a natural wine lounge by local bistro La Cabane, a gourmet market stocked with gastronomical goodies, and masterclasses on champagne and wine hosted by leading mixologists and sommeliers.

Tickets are on sale as of today, and will be available at extra affordable early bird prices until the end of January. Forks at the ready, Coconauts!
