University bids to get hi-tech cheaters banned from medical profession for life

Rangsit University will ask the Medical Council of Thailand to ban the three cheating students from the medical profession for life.

The university’s move came after the story of the cheaters, who reportedly paid THB50,000 for the hi-tech cheating system, was widely criticized online and caused concern among Thai people.

The cheating scam, which was reportedly planned by an unnamed cram school, involved hiring a helper to sit in the exam and photograph questions using a tiny camera embedded in a pair of glasses to send to the tutors.

The tutors then worked out the correct answers and sent them to the smartwatches of the three students taking the exam.

As the students cannot be prosecuted because they technically didn’t break any law, the university will instead file a civil lawsuit to demand compensation from them to cover the damage caused after the university had to scrap the exam taken by over 3,000 applicants, reported Thai PBS.

The entrance exams were for the university’s faculties of medicine, dentistry, and pharmaceutical sciences. There were only 130 spots for the three faculties.
