Even world leaders need to hit the markets in search of souvenirs while visiting Bangkok.

While in the Thai capital to attend the APEC Summit, Vice President of the United States Kamala Harris was spotted on Sunday afternoon shopping at the Or Tor Kor Market in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district.

Photos released by the US Embassy show Harris holding some key ingredients to Thai cuisine such as red and green curry pastes, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, and a set of tom yum spices.

“Thank you to the people of Thailand for such a warm welcome,” she tweeted.

Harris’ trip to the market was unannounced beforehand due to “security reasons.” Some food vendors at the market said they were very surprised to see her. Some of them clapped and greeted the vice president and her entourage.

Harris’ husband Doug Emhoff was also spotted beside her during the visit. The couple arrived in Bangkok for the APEC summit last week and departed Bangkok via the Don Mueang International Airport yesterday.

In her bilateral meeting with the current APEC chair, Harris and Thailand’s prime minister Gen. Prayuth Chan-ocha talked about expanding bilateral cooperation in several areas including climate change, cybersecurity, and promoting clean energy in the Mekong region. They also touched upon the worsening crisis in Thailand’s neighboring country Myanmar.
