A northern woman’s frog is wowing the internet today after it came to light that the portly yellow amphibian was responsible for over THB100,000 (US$3,000) in lottery wins.

Noodle shop owner Boonleng Muangma, 58, is the lucky owner of a fat, 4-month-old female frog that she credits with equally plump lottery payouts. Boonleng said she bought the chungus at a market and raised it until it was as large as a man’s hand, and golden like the Buddha.

Since the story got out, people have flocked to her Phayao province noodle shop in droves to bask in froggie fortune. They have lined up at its cement pool where it lives alongside two ordinary silver and black frogs, a turtle, and an eel.

When it comes to the lottery, lucky numbers and superstition go hand in hand, with magic monks, levitating statues and even kitten meat sausages inspiring players.

Boonleng did not reveal her past winning numbers, nor how exactly the divine frog was responsible for them. But with the bimonthly lottery next set for tomorrow, her fortune-telling frog was enough to fill the pages of Thailand’s tabloids.

With a nation’s fortunes held between her frog’s webbed toes, Boonleng offered lucky numbers based on her home address: 58, and 478-479 for the jackpot.

Her shop is in Phayao city’s Mae Sai tambon. Just ask people where to find her. Stare at the frog until it reveals the universe’s terrifying secrets. Give it a lick to see even more.
