Thailand’s 119-year-old man to be nominated for Guinness record

Authorities in Mae Hong Son want to put Thailand in the Guinness Book of World Records for having the oldest living man.

The people of Mae Hong Son are planning to nominate 119-year-old Kamu Tongnumchokdee. Governor Narumon Palawat said that Kamu is an ethnic Karen who lives in Muang Pam Ville in Pang Mapha. The widower, he added, is still physically active and fishes for his food everyday.

According to the Nation, Kamu was born on May 8, 1894. The father of four now lives alone in the village and receives occasional assistance from relatives. His diet consists mostly of coarse rice, vegetables and fish that he himself has caught.

According to the governor, there are two other Karen natives who are in the running for the record: Norjordoh Wanapanich is 116 and Normikho Rattanaarayatham is 105.
