Reporters who camped out at Government House with a long list of thoughtful questions today probably didn’t expect to have those questions received by a cardboard picture of the prime minister.

Today is Children’s Day in Thailand and the PM was busily handing out awards to 700 of the country’s best and brightest young scholars, Prayuth Chan-ocha, who has referred to himself as “funny,” showed off his sense of humor by sending out a cardboard version of himself to field reporters’ questions.

“Anyone who wants to ask me questions, please do. Now bring it out!” he turned to his staff, looking serious, according to a video published by Thairath.

“Anyone who wants a photo with me or to ask me about political conflicts… they can ask this guy. Put him over here. Bye!” he said, before abruptly walking back to his office.

The crowd of journalists then burst out in laughter.

The cardboard is reportedly a photo prop from the Children’s Day event last year.

Maybe he did this because the reporters didn’t dress up as school children this year? Two years ago, Prayuth had a pretty good time mugging with the journos who showed up at the Government House, dressed up as schoolchildren and girl scouts.
