Foreign nationals unable to fly home must hurry by tomorrow to the Immigration Bureau for temporary visa extensions without paying fines, a Foreign Affairs Ministry rep said today.
With the pandemic visa amnesty set to expire Saturday, ministry spokesperson Tanee Sangrat said people can apply for 60-day extensions set to begin Sunday. According to Immigration Bureau rules, applicants are not required to obtain letters from their embassies but should download and complete a self-affidavit.
It has 10 questions to complete, written in varying levels of Thaiglish.
Applicants may apply for up to 90 days after Saturday’s expiration, Tanee said, but will be assessed a fine. He said that those who remain without applying will be considered as overstaying their visa and face prosecution, deportation and being blacklisted.
All relevant agencies agreed that the visa amnesty, put in place in March and extended several times, would not be extended again, according to a foreign affairs representative who declined to give his name.
