A son of a local senior official crashed his Porsche into a motorbike yesterday afternoon in central Lopburi province, killing a 25-year-old woman and severely injuring the bike’s driver.

Supattra Boonyuenman, 25, the woman riding pillion, died instantly, while the driver, Narong Thongkrapor, 24, was seriously injured when he reportedly flew off the motorcycle and landed on the back of the Porsche.

When police arrived at the scene on Lopburi Wangmuang Road at about 2pm, Wachira Chirapanwanich, 23, told them the motorbike had abruptly cut in front of him to reach the U-turn point. He hit the brakes, but his Porsche could not stop in time and rammed the vehicle, Thairath reported.

Given the injuries to Narong, no competing version of events has yet been offered to police.

Wachira’s mother, Orapin, is provincial director of Lopburi aka Thailand’s “Monkey City.”

Wachira has been charged with reckless driving causing death, though the investigation is ongoing, according to Daily News.

While fault in the crash has yet to be fully determined, Thai netizens were instantly — and understandably — discussing the possibility that Wachira’s position might see police treat him with kid gloves, an all-too-plausible possibility given Thailand’s long list of rich and powerful who have escaped justice with a slap on the wrist.

Red Bull heir Vorayuth “Boss” Yoovidhya is still at large after slamming his Ferrari into a Bangkok policeman, killing him before fleeing the scene in 2012.

Meanwhile, Orachorn “Praewa” Thephasadin na Ayudhya, a wealthy young woman, only had to do community service after crashing her Honda into a commuter van, killing eight people in 2010. At the time, she was only 16 years old and not licensed to drive.
