After a Facebook clip of them tagging public property along Silom Road went viral on Wednesday, an American couple was located at their hotel in Bangkok, arrested, and fined.

The clip, posted by user Vorathep Charoenpornpanich at 4pm on Wednesday, has been viewed 2.4 million times and prompted police to investigate, quickly locating the duo at a hotel on Surawong Road, reported The Nation.

Bruce Baizer, 29, and Kristin Jones, 22, (spelling is a guessed estimation based on the police report, written entirely in Thai, including the suspects’ names) were arrested yesterday before being taken to Thung Mahamek police station and fined a total of THB5,000 (about US$153), which is the maximum fine for vandalism in Thai law.

Unsurprisingly, the duo’s antics — which included Baizer winking at the camera as they were filmed — provoked widespread outrage among Thai netizens yesterday, with Vorathep calling them “animals” and asking Facebook users to share the clip until they were caught. And that it was.

Not that the punishment was all that severe. Police said they told the two to improve their behavior and that Baizer and Jones had said they were sorry and that their behavior was “only for fun.”
