Health officials today reported a new single case of COVID-19 and no new deaths.

One day after no new cases had been reported, COVID task force spokesman Taweesilp Wissanuyothin said a 39-year-old man tested positive in Chiang Mai after he returned home from Phuket, where a cluster of infections had earlier been detected.

Today’s update brought the number of known infections to 3,018. It was the fifth day no new deaths were announced, leaving the the death toll standing at 56.

Though testing has stayed low, the dwindling number of case reports has fueled hope that Thailand may emerge from the global pandemic relatively unscathed, compared to its neighbors.

While questions have been raised about how many pneumonia cases might have been misdiagnosed COVID cases, he said they have not hid the number.
