Now would be time to gather up one baht coins around your apartment.

A useful review of a coin deposit machine from SCB has reached over 4 million views within days, with most netizens saying they didn’t even realize the machines had finally been installed in Bangkok.

The machine was previously shown off (and became the highlight) at the Money Expo in May of last year, and SCB quietly launched it in September. Now there are only four coin deposit machines in Bangkok — at CentralWorld, Central Ladprao, Central Westgate, and Mega Banga, according to an SCB staff member.

Korakot Jinaya posted the review from Central Westgate as he put piles of coins worth nearly THB2,000 into the machine. They heavy coins made satisfying dropping sounds as they were tallied and deposited into his saving account.

The machine takes one baht, two baht, five baht, and ten baht coins — sorry, the tiny, bronze satang coins won’t work here.

Korakot told Coconuts that the machine rejected a few old coins when he made a video, but he was pretty satisfied with the service.

“I think this machine really suits Thai people. That’s why the video has got many shares. Our ancestors have taught children to save money in a piggy bank. I was one of those children,” he said.

“You can see the comments that not only people with lots of coins have had problems [depositing them], so do the merchants who regularly have to deposit coins [from their trade].”

For others, this might help with the everyday annoyance of having coins clogging the bottoms of their purses…and pockets, and washing machines, and drawers, and cars, and life.
