Similar machines are already popular in many other countries and, this week, SCB has unveiled their own version of an ATM-like machine where you can drop piles of baht coins for deposit into your SCB account, to buy mobile top-ups, or even to donate to charities.

The prototype was shown to much fanfare at the 17th Money Expo this week. Visitors to the Bangkok financial fest lined up to try it out and reportedly liked it very much, according to Thairath.

The machine accepts Thai coins and features a large well at the top where lots of coins can be dumped at once for sorting and tallying.

Unfortunately, the design also makes it look a bit like a urinal. Let’s hope no one mistakes it for one.

SCB’s prototype will be the first of its kind in Thailand and the bank hopes to install these machines soon.
