The Brazilian tourist who was allegedly raped by a taxi driver after she got in his car at Don Mueang Airport on Tuesday decided to continue her holiday in Thailand.
The 22-year-old victim, whose name was withheld, took a taxi at the airport upon her arrival from Malaysia to meet her friend in Thong Lor on Tuesday afternoon. However, the taxi driver, drove out of the city and allegedly beat and raped her at a remote field in Suphan Buri, a province an hour and a half drive from Bangkok.
She said the taxi driver then abandoned her to be found by locals.
According to Tourism Permanent Secretary Pongpanu Svetarundra, the victim is currently coping and decided to continue her holiday in Thailand.
Pongpanu said the government gave the victim THB20,000 cash from a fund set to help tourists recover from mental injury, and also complimentary air tickets.
Her travel plan was kept confidential, Bangkok Post reported.
The rape suspect Kamkoonchareon Konchaturat, 44, was arrested on Wednesday. Local media reported he has been convicted for rape twice. He reportedly raped a Thai woman in September, 2008 and sent to jail. Six months after his release, he raped a female passenger in Myanmar in January, 2013.
