Police today were able to arrest the taxi driver accused of raping a young Brazilian woman he picked up at Don Mueang Airport.

The driver was identified as Korat native Kamkoonchareon Konchaturat, 44. He was seized by officers in Nonthaburi province.

Police are in the process of questioning the suspect.

The 22-year-old victim, whose name was withheld, said that she took a morning flight from Kuala Lumpur and landed at Bangkok’s Don Mueang at 1:30pm on Tuesday.

She then took a taxi to see a friend in the Thong Lor area, but instead, Kamkoonchareon drove out of town to a field in Suphanburi province where she says he raped her. He then escaped and abandoned her to be found by locals.

News program Torkao Rongtook reported that the cabbie has been convicted of rape twice — the first time in 2008 and second in 2013, which he raped a female passenger from Myanmar.

The victim, who reportedly won a beauty pageant title in South America, is receiving a treatment at Police Hospital in Bangkok, Bangkok Biz News reported.
