Pot thickens as raid on Thai-American visa ring uproots weed farm

Tuesday was a good day for the cops who raided a woman’s alleged counterfeit visa ring in Bangkok. When officers arrived, they were amazed to discover not only evidence of forgery, but an illicit weed farm allegedly operated by her American husband.

On the premises of the Khan Na Yao district residence, they found 60 cannabis plants, 99 grams of dried bud and drug paraphernalia along with several fake official stamps used to counterfeit visas for foreigners, according to Immigration Bureau chief Sompong Chingduang.

They left with 34-year-old Grace Punnak Scira and Chad Vincent Scira in custody for producing cannabis with intent to sell, plus a forgery charge for Grace. Chad Scira, 31, told officers the weed was for personal use.

They operated the Thai Visa Centre in Bangkok’s Bang Phli district, which advertised “visa consultation” services and had a 4.9 star review on Google from 242 users.

“If anyone needs visa services, I will be recommending this place,” read one.
