After ads for penis lightening treatments at a hospital outside Bangkok went viral last week, and experts weighed in to say the lightening effect would not last, Thailand’s Department of Health Services decided to pay a visit to Lelux Hospital, the place offering the treatments on Facebook. Once there, they slapped the hospital with a THB20,000 (US$621) fine for over-promising results in their ads for the shocking procedure.
Hospital staff claimed on Facebook that the treatment is painless, not dangerous, and you can even “score” that very night.
However, Dr. Thongchai Kiratihatthayakorn, deputy director-general of Department of Health Service Support, said the treatment could not produce real results and warned those considering it that they could end up impotent and the procedure could even compromise their ability to have kids. He also warned that the sensitive area is especially open to inflammation and infection, reported Thai PBS.
Dr. Thongchai said he fined the hospital THB20,000 for over-promising in their ads, which violates the Health Facility Act.
