Ouch! Thought-provoking comic skewers Thailand for VIP treatment of hot bar girl murder suspect

Cutting Bangkok-based Japanese illustrator Onan Hiroshi hit the nail on the head again with a comic that seems to point a finger at Thai officials for their alleged preferential treatment of Khon Kaen bar girl murder suspect Preeyanuch Nonwangchai, 24.

The piece has been shared 10,000 times in 21 hours.

In the four-panel piece, we see a “hot” woman slicing a body in half in an obvious—if also tasteless and insensitive—reference to how Preeyanuch allegedly dismembered the body of  Warisara Klinjui, 22. In the panel below, we see her in police custody, smoking, eating, laughing, and having her photo taken by officers, who all smile at her.

This references viral photos online of the suspect smiling, applying makeup, eating, smoking, and posing for pics with officers.

On the right side, we see what is meant to be an unattractive women slicing the same body in half. In the panel below, she is also in police custody but is being stoned, handcuffed, and hit.

The message, of course, is that looks will get you better treatment—especially from the Thai police.

We reached out to the artist, but much like when we’ve reached out to him before, he doesn’t reply because he staunchly speaks neither English nor Thai, just Japanese.

His own cover photo says it best:

Thankfully, his always on-point comics need no words and even less explanation.
