No new COVID cases logged for first time this month

For the first time in 17 days, health officials logged no new COVID-19 infections or fatalities today.

COVID-19 task force spokesperson Panprapa Yongthakun, who usually heads the weekend briefings, said no new infections had been detected for the first time since May 24. The last fatality was recorded June 2. Earlier last month on May 13 was the first time no infections had been found since the outbreak picked up steam.

Since the outbreak began, 3,125 infections and 58 deaths have been attributed to the coronavirus. In recent weeks, all new cases have been detected in quarantine facilities housing Thais repatriated from abroad. There are still 80 COVID-19 patients undergoing treatment at hospitals.

On Friday, officials are expected to confirm when and how the next phase of lifting restrictions on commerce and movement will take place.
