The female foreign tourist that made viral news last week for posing for pictures with her butt exposed and bare feet up on a wall at a revered Buddhist temple has been found, along with her male friend that snapped the insensitive photos.
They turned out to be Serbian tourists and were arrested on obscenity charges and breaching Section 388 of the Criminal Code. Nadica Curcin and Vladimir Veizovic, both 31, were arrested on Saturday at Suvarnabhumi Airport and released after admitting guilt and paying a THB5,000 fine each, which is the maximum punishment for their crime, according to the tourist police.
The photos, which were very offensive to many Thais, were taken last week at Bangkok’s Temple of the Emerald Buddha and the woman was seen lounging with her legs up on a wall, bare feet on the ledge, as her dress rode up and exposed more than is modest at a religious site.
The pair were surprised and said they did not know their actions were illegal.
In November, American married couple Joseph Dasilva, 38, and Travis Dasilva, 36, were held for two weeks at Don Mueang International Airport, after pics from their “traveling_butts” Instagram page showed them dropping their pants at Wat Pho, another important religious site.
The men apologized, deleted their account, and were charged with public nudity.
