Thailand orders extradition of Italian mafia boss

It looks like the drama of Vito Roberto Palazzo is coming to an end, or at least entering a third-act lull.

Yesterday, the Bangkok Criminal Court ruled in favor of extraditing Palazzo to his native Italy, where he faces jail time for his association with the Sicilian Mafia.

Palazzo was first arrested in Bangkok on March 30, at which point he was still claiming to be a South African national by the name of Robert von Palace Kolbatschenko.

His original flight to Thailand was spurned by a 2009 ruling from Italy’s Supreme Court of Cassation, the country’s highest judicial body, which sentenced him in absentia to nine years in prison.

While the Bangkok Criminal Court’s ruling puts Palazzo one step closer to that prison term, the Nation is reporting that Palazzo plans to appeal the decision in an effort to halt his extradition.
