A forum thread on well known website Pantip.com led to the revelation that many of the security cameras installed under former Bangkok governor Apirak Kosayodhin are fake, the Bangkok Post reported.
Mr. Apirak admitted that many of the cameras were dummies, causing much speculation about possible corruption and misuse of Bangkok Metropolitan Authority funds. But he said that they still discouraged crime and were used to mark locations for future working cameras.
Current Bangkok Governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra might have some explaining to do as well, as he campaigned on having installed 10,000 more security cameras in the city.
The whole thing started when Pantip.com users posted observations about CCTV cases being empty.
