Police said the naked driver who caused three cars to crash on Lat Phrao Wang Hin Road will face a charge of reckless driving while her family claims she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
Pol. Col. Nampetch Sap-udom of Chok Chai police department said the family of the woman, whose identity was withheld, presented the police with a patient ID card which was issued by a hospital in Surat Thani and claimed she has been on medication for several years for her illness.
Her family said they will pay compensation to the car owners in the accident.
The police did not say how she got an access to a car or if she was allowed by her family to drive.
Yesterday morning, the woman drove the wrong way on Lat Phrao Wang Hin Road before colliding head-on with a taxi, causing a multiple pile-up as two other cars, a Mercedes and a six-wheeler, also collided behind the taxi.
In a video filmed by a witness, the driver then got out of her car while naked before breaking into dance.
Rescue volunteers sent her to a hospital nearby after the accident. Her family has transferred her to another hospital in Bang Na so she can receive treatment.
Pol. Col. Nampetch said the driver may also be charged with public obscenity if the medical reports prove she was fully aware of her actions at the time of the accident, Morning News reported.
