Mobile Market: Chatuchak weekend market developing shopping app

Bangkok’s world-famous Chatuchak Market will soon have an app in order to make the famous old market just a bit more modern and attract even more tourists.

The State Railway of Thailand and Siam Commercial Bank have partnered to develop the technology that will allow vendors to manage stock and receive payments using the government’s PromptPay system. So far, only 50 of the market’s approximately 15,000 vendors in the 27 acre market are using the platform but it does not officially launch until November.

The app will allow visitors to locate certain shops, items, and to learn about promotions. All information will be available in Thai, English, and Mandarin, reported Thai News Network.

Chatuchak Market attracts between 200,000-300,000 visitors over every weekend. The new app is expected to increase the number of customers even more and raise the standards of the market to help it become an even more prominent attraction in Southeast Asia.
