The macaque that made headlines last month after gory photos surfaced of him suffering an arrow wound to the face, looks as good as new and officials said yesterday that he could return home to his troop.

The monkey, whose Thai name has been translated as both “Rocket” and “Diamond Harpoon” is just one year old. He has been recovering for about four weeks and the process went very well. He was, ironically, considering his name, shot by a harpoon gun and the weapon’s metal arrow hit beneath his right eye and entered his skull. He was rescued by doctors from K Plus Animal Clinic, who quickly removed the arrow and began nursing him to health.

“The arrow entered his skull just at the spot under his right eye and got through all the way to his back. Luckily, the arrow didn’t penetrate his brain. His eye still responded,” Dr. Thanyanak Pholchai told Coconuts.

During his recovery, he had a tiny infection but ate well and had a good attitude about his time in the animal treatment facility. He has already been reunited with his family at his home in the outskirts of Bangkok in Bang Khun Thian.

Check out this touching video of the happy guy returning home, his fellow monkeys swarming the roadside to welcome him back into the fold:
Bang Khun Thian is also the home of world-famous macaque Uncle Fatty, the 27-kilogram monkey that overate junk food provided by tourists
Unfortunately, Fatty does not have such a good attitude about being held in a government facility and forced onto a restrictive diet. When we visited him last month, he was most displeased with his food, despite enjoying a moderate weight loss.

Best of luck cutie, we hope you stay safe in the future!
