Bangkok monkey saved from metal arrow shot into skull

A young long-tailed macaque who roamed free in Bangkok’s Bang Khun Thien district will miraculously live after he was shot by a harpoon gun. The weapon’s metal arrow hit beneath his right eye and entered his skull.

Thanks to the doctors from K Plus Animal Clinic, the monkey was brought to safety and had the arrow removed Sunday.

“The arrow entered his skull just at the spot under his right eye and got through all the way to his back. Luckily, the arrow didn’t penetrate his brain. His eye still responded,” Dr. Thanyanak Pholchai told Coconuts.

The monkey, estimated to be only one year old, has ironically been named Chamuak Petch, which translates to Diamond Harpoon, and was picked up by Wildlife Friends Foundation for further treatment rehabilitation on Monday.

The foundation will care for the animal until he’s well enough to be released back into the wild.

Chamuak Petch was a monkey from the same area as Uncle Fatty, the world-famous macaque who recently made headlines for being overweight and put on a diet.
