Meow: Black cat beauty contest to show off underappreciated felines

Bound by myths and fairy tales that they are an omen of evil, the life of a black cat is more difficult than any other feline. Imagine that you’re the last one who gets fed by strangers on the street or that no one really appreciates your presence at a funeral.

Cat Fanciers’ Club of Thailand has put together an admirable initiative to change that stereotype and calling for all the coal-colored kitties of Thailand to compete in a pageant for the sleekest and blackest fur. We’re talking all-black felines only. No white spots or socks.

All breeds are welcome as long as they’re black. Those with twisted tails from birth and disabilities are welcome too. We respect those veterans who who have fought in many alley cat wars!

They just gotta be healthy and have great personality. (Catching the infrared red dot will earn them extra points.)

The contest is divided into four categories: short-hair kittens, long-hair kittens, short-hair adults, and long-hair adults. Got a black feline? Entry is free and you could go home with THB3,000 if you win the first prize. Apply here.

Oh and PS, in Thailand, there is a ghost called Jakla, which is a black kitty with red evil eyes that can kill people simply by staring. Black cat owners must unite to change these misconceptions!
