Feasting Fatty? Obese macaque released from fat camp hours ago, seen gorging (VIDEO)

Famous flabby macaque Uncle Fatty was released from three months of government-sanctioned fat camp today and he seems to have celebrated by gorging on sugary coconut-flavored Dutchie yogurt.

In this video, Fatty (now at a slightly less obese 24 kilograms from his former 27 kilograms) is released at his old stomping grounds of Bang Khun Thien, in Bangkok. The clip was posted by the “Good Hearted Monkey Lovers” Facebook group. As Fatty waddles toward the riverside, he is handed a cup of yogurt by a Thai man, which he seems quite pleased to receive.

Another man offers him a plate of lettuce and long beans, which he ignores.

Fatty devours the yogurt, seemingly unembarrassed about the white cream dripping down his face and onto his still-round belly. See photos of Fatty enjoying his treat at The Nation.

When Coconuts met with the veterinarian caring for fatty a few months ago, Dr. Supkarn Kaewchote of the government’s Wildlife Conservation Office, she told us that he should be eating a diet of mostly raw vegetables with some less-sweet fruits, such as papaya and dragonfruit.

While the man that gave him the yogurt may believe that yogurt is a health food and it’s okay for Fatty to eat, the truth is, he should not be eating sweet, processed human foods of any kind. Those foods are what got him into the shape he is in today.
