The Bangkok Police force is summoning famous ex-porn star Kejsarin Chaichalermpol, AKA Nong Nat, for allegedly promoting a football gambling website on her social media profile.

Nong Nat, who built her fame by starring in adult videos during the 2000s, has become better known in recent years as an internet personality — and is one of the 21 social media stars, or what Thais call “internet idols,” being summoned to face charges under the country’s Anti-Gambling Act.

The ex-adult film star, who made headlines in international tabloids for her marriage (and divorce) to a much older American entrepreneur, is scheduled to report to Phaya Thai police tomorrow. She is facing up to one year in prison, and a THB1,000 (about US$30) fine.

Pol. Lt. Theerachai Chamanmor, a deputy commander of Phaya Thai police, said that three of the internet idols have reported themselves to authorities since yesterday.

The trio includes: Thanaporn Onsang, Wetthaka Kaewkam, and Chorthip Chandaharn, who all admitted to the charges.

Thanaporn said that she was hired to appear in a gambling site’s commercial for THB12,000 (US$360) and subsequently posted the footage on her Facebook page. The model claimed that she didn’t know it was illegal, Matichon reported.

“After this incident, I’ll think harder before accepting a job,” Thanaporn told reporters.

Meanwhile, Chorthip said she was paid THB20,000 (US$600) for doing the same thing.

Since the World Cup season kicked off in mid-June, the Thai police have been working to shut down gambling sites and arrest anyone involved in betting activities — including the so-called internet idols who allegedly did their part to encourage that gambling.

In statistics revealed by the Metropolitan Police on Thursday, authorities have arrested over 2,700 gamblers and 49 dealers in the past month.

Nineteen internet idols have, so far, been prosecuted for promoting betting sites. The list also includes Jessie Vard — the Irish expat model who has over 2.5 million followers on Facebook.
